So, What is a King Oyster Mushroom?

The King Oyster mushroom is a firm textured mushroom that is originally native to the Mediterranean region, Asia, and North Africa, but is now grown worldwide. It has a thick, meaty white stem and a small tan cap on top.

What is it like to eat?

King Oyster Mushrooms stand out because of their chewy, resilient texture which is why they make a great meat replacement in vegan and plant based cooking. The King Oyster mushroom’s umami flavour is less earthy than other mushrooms which makes it extremely versatile and the perfect filling for our crispy Kentucky Dunkers!

What are the benefits?

King Oyster Mushrooms are a very good source of riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, phosphorus, potassium, copper, and dietary fiber.

They are also a good source of protein, thiamin, vitamin B6, folate, iron, magnesium, zinc and manganese, and are very low in saturated fat and cholesterol.

King Oyster Mushrooms, like other mushrooms, also contain a small amount of vitamin D!

How can it be used in cooking?

This particular type of mushroom is perfect for replacing certain types of meat in dishes because of it’s chewy, firm texture! The stem of the mushroom can also be used to replicate the texture of scallops!
