Ever wonder where vegans get their protein?

There are a whole host of high protein foods on offer to your everyday vegan! Firstly you should know that if you are eating a balanced plate you will automatically be getting enough protein! Woo hoo!

Still need convincing? Let’s look at this a little closer...

Firstly, a quick bit of science-y stuff. Amino Acids are needed for vital processes like the building of proteins and synthesis of hormones and neurotransmitters. Protein is full of these Amino Acids- although the majority of plant protein sources don’t contain all 9 of the essential amino acids our body needs- which is why we need to eat a combination of different plant foods to tick all of the boxes!

Here’s a bit of a breakdown for you about the best ways to get your protein when following a vegan diet:

A 1 ½ cup of cooked chickpeas contain the same amount of protein as a beef burger.

GREAT SOURCES OF PLANT PROTEIN FOR VEGANS:

Beans (all varieties!), lentils, peas, chickpeas, nuts, seeds (chia, flax, pumpkin, sesame, sunflower, hemp to name a few), soy (tempeh and tofu are made from soy), quinoa, amaranth, oats. There are also loads of amazing vegan protein powders available!
