“I think the way to measure success needs a huge rebrand when it comes to business - its something I am incredibly passionate about!”
1. How do you measure success?
I think the way to measure success needs a huge rebrand when it comes to business - its something I am incredibly passionate about! The traditional definition of a successful business is based on turnover and headcount. The idea that a huge headcount is the definition of success I find totally ridiculous! I want to see the new success in business being measured by the ability to balance happiness and purpose with profits. I have coined these businesses ‘Good Life’ businesses, a business that allows you to follow your passions, live a brilliant life and make a profit I believe is the ultimate success.
2. What advice do you have to anyone struggling with self-acceptance?
If you can’t overcome it, turn it into your superpower to drive you forward. I still, at times, struggle with the imposter syndrome, but instead of trying to overcome it, I embrace it - knowing that it will mean I over prepare for meetings, second check my writing…. It makes me better at what I do.
“I’d love to see even more women starting companies, gaining investment or building ‘Good Life’ companies.”
- Holly Tucker
3. What keeps you grounded?
My son Harry. When setting up NOTHS it took every hour of the day, I missed Harry’s first words, his first steps and lived with terrible ‘mum guilt’, convinced I would have messed him up. 14 years later, he has started his own business, he is the most amazing young man, and wants nothing more than to be part of the Holly & Co team. I tell him every day that it would be a priviladge to have him come and work with us.
4. Have you made any promises to yourself this year?
That I will allow myself some headspace and work from home on Fridays…! My plan is that by not being in the office on a Friday I can get through my emails and have a moment to breathe… it’s not quite gone to plan yet, but determined to get back on track!
5. Do you have a mantra that you live by?
The mantra of Holly& Co is “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.”
6. If you could share a bench with one female figure who would it be?
Oprah - I think she is one of the most influential and inspirational women on our time.
7. What do you see in store for women around the world between today and Women's Day 2020?
I believe we’ll see the gap between the rate of difference between men and women starting businesses closing. It’s an issue I plan to tackle in a big way over the next 12 months. I’d love to see even more women starting companies, gaining investment or building ‘Good Life’ companies.
